Internet Love Scams


Scammers target victims searching for love or friendship on dating or social networking sites. Upon befriending the victims and gaining their trust, scammers ask for financial help for various reasons.

Multi Payment Online Scam


Scammers usually post advertisements on online sites selling smartphones, tablets and other devices at cheap prices. Victims are then informed to make advanced payments to have the goods delivered to them. Upon making these payments, they do not receive the items.

Money Mule


A money mule is someone who receives and transfers money for scammers. The money may have been stolen or received from victims of scams. Upon gaining the potential money mule’s trust, the criminal would ask him or her to open new bank accounts or use an existing bank account to receive money

Credit-for-Sex Scams


Scammers target victims searching for love or friendship on dating or social networking sites. Upon befriending the victims and gaining their trust, scammers ask for financial help for various reasons.

PayPal Email Scam


Scammers pose as buyers interested in items that their victims are selling. Victims then receive “payment confirmation” from PayPal, to which they proceed with sending items to the “buyers”.

Cyber Extortion


This scam typically involves overseas-based female scammer and local male victims. Victims are befriended by these women and coaxed into performing indecent acts in from of the camera. These acts are recorded on video and used to blackmail the victims for money.

Ransomware


It is a type of malicious software used by cybercriminals, designed to block users’ from their computer system. Victims are able to gain access when they have paid the “hostage ransom” to the cybercriminals.

Phishing Scam


This occurs when victims receive an email from a seemingly trusted company, such as DHL or a bank. They are then tricked into giving out personal information such as full name, identification number, bank account numbers and even passwords.
